Its been a long day.... got the log arch welded, picked up the log and made it about 20 ft and the axle broke.... took me about 1 1/2 hours to get it back to the garage for re-welding the axle.

Got it fixed (I thought) and headed back to the log to try it out.... picked the log up, went all the way around the house and started backing in the driveway with no problem... then... crack !! the OTHER axle broke Roll Eyes

I left the log on the side of the road, managed to pull the arch across the street to a neighbor's yard, and gave up for tonight.... I'll go get it with the tractor and boom tomorrow and try again.... looks like I need longer axles so I can weld them better... I was butt welding them to the channel iron, and aparently this just doesnt work..

I welded my arch to the spring mounts on the axle.  In the morning I'll get a picture for ya.

We have a big day Saturday.  I'm sawing studs for a school house restoration project and four of them are coming over to help.  Not a lot of logs but enough to have fun with.

hummm now that might work...

I'm using old wheels from a railrtoad baggage cart, and it takes an odd size axle. I found a piece of round stock that was close enough, but short. It only give me 3/4" to play with.. not enough to get a very good weld on... the welds arent breaking, its the steel from the channel iron that is actually coming apart...

I'll try your suggestion though harold.. you might have something there  Smiley

Hey Sawyers,  I'm still looking, reading, studying, and dreaming about sawmills.  I'm looking foward to
go to Alabama on Monday or Tuesday to look at a swinger mill.  Has any sawyers gone into the home
storage building market or wooden fence market? I will be testing these markets when the mill is in hand.

You could tell me how the Lucas slabber fits in with your Woodmizer.

I have a Woodmizer and am looking hard for a slabber to cut down larger
logs for my WM and for slabs.

At present I cut for myself. We are building decks and sheds and a post
and beam garage. When we catch up we wil build a solar kiln.

I have about 800 square feet in a retail business I would like to display
slabs, turning blanks and burl woods to spread the word about our
sawmill.

I feel like I NEED a slabber. I have a big stack of 35 to 42 inch logs
and I am going to get a 40 plus burl this week. Just had a call and went
and looked at a 64 inch downed red oak. Perfect no rot. Homeowner
had a crew saw it down with an 18 inch chainsaw (64 inch) right next
to his house. He said that he "hoped they knew what they we doing".

Anyway Lucas and Peterson both have slabbers. I'm leaning toward the
Lucas. Anybody else have a dedicated slabber?

Hey Sawyers,  Me and Oldsawdust went up to NE Alabama today to see and run an ATS Peterson owned by Eagleview.  Just a doin da Forestry Forum Boogie   He let us help put it together then we sawed a pine and a white oak log.  It turned those two logs into nice looking lumber in short order. We were impressed with the Peterson ATS but it was out performed by Mr. and Mrs. Eagleviews hospitality.  If everyone here on this forum is as first class as Eagleview then you could change the forum to, "League of extraordinary gentlemen sawyers".

Treebiker, welcome to THE Forum, again. Grin  I'm glad you had a good time with the Eagleviews, but it don't surprise me in the least.  I lost count a long time ago, but I have met well over a hundred FF members and I can't think of a single one that I didn't like.  I'd jump at the chance to meet up with any one of them again
