My wife says it's a pile of scrap, I see other possibilities.

Imagination in action!  8)

I noticed how clean that log is.  You did a nice job putting together those pieces of iron, as a friend of mine would say it was a diamond in the rough it just needed some cutting and polishing.

It is so much easier and safer moving logs in that manner in the woods.

jph,

Well you have heard it before and you will hear it again, that is a good looking arch. You have a lot of ingenuity and welding skills. I am glad it is working as planned.

Great job jph. looks like you have a real good log arch.
logging small time for years but just learning how, with a Forest stewardship plan, 2 compact Ford 4x4 tractors, 3point log arch, 8000# class excavator, lifts 2500# and sets logs on mill precisely where needed,  Peterson ATS upgraded to WPF mill, sugar maple/maple syrup a hobby gone amuck.

She got a lot longer in the pictures.  Is that her permanent length now or is it adjustable? ???

I do believe that he said that it is adjustable.

The old arch is still working well, although it is not quite as straight as it used to be.

I find the best way to use it is to drive as close as possble to the log, unhitch the arch from the tractor and then manhandle it  over the log. I then hitch it up to the tractor again.  I put a chain under the log just to the back of centre and use the winch to raise it.  By lowering the tractor draw bar I can put a chain under the front of the log. Raising the draw bar then lifts the front of the log and I can drive off to the mill.

I only use  the arch for longer logs, anything under 12 footI can just pick up with the fork on the front of the tractor.

Nice arch for transport .  Looks like it would get into tight spots nicer than mine.   Dualies all around!  Must make for some nice traction.   Good job!  8) 8)

Looks good. Sounds like the wheel bearings could use some grease though. I like that tractor. How does it steer?
