Welcome to the forum Don.

Thiggy  Don't worry about putting a 30" on that LT  I've had 35" on mine .  It is just a lot of work.

Thiggy, you can use a chainsaw to quarter those logs that are to big so you can fit them on the mill.  It's just a little more work, but often worth the effort.
Here's some pics of Arkansawyer and Urbanlogger splitting an oak.

Where there's a will there's a way, Welcome aboard. Great place and you'll never get enough cutting done cause you're on the DanG putter all the time.  Any questions will gladly be answered by many who will give you several approaches to any question.
logging small time for years but just learning how, with a Forest stewardship plan, 2 compact Ford 4x4 tractors, 3point log arch, 8000# class excavator, lifts 2500# and sets logs on mill precisely where needed,  Peterson ATS upgraded to WPF mill, sugar maple/maple syrup a hobby gone amuck.

Hello to everyone that replied today while I wuz asnoozin the day away. These 12 hr midnight shifts are rough on a person sometimes.   In answer to your question Thiggy, the largest log i have sawed was a 23" x 16' SYP. I bought a extra section of bed for my mill. I load with a 48" logrite cant hook or my daddy's tractor when I can sneak it away. Speaking of tractors, I recently read a thread on the Ag Expo in Moultrie and I'm going to try to go a couple of days next week and look at some tractors. I was curious because I'm going to try to tent camp overnight and I remember reading something about it. I've tried to find it but I can't remember where it was. Can anyone help?

WELCOME

sorry I'm slow to say hello and welcome to the FF.

When you pitch your tent at sunbelt, make sure you run up your FF flag.

If you don't have a flag, just make some grits over the fire..... FF members will materialize soon.

Rockin H, when I was talking to my wife about the logs which were too large in diameter to get in the mill, she suggested that we could split them.  I poo-pooed the idea.  It never occurred how it could be done with a chain saw and bottle jack.  Great idea!
