More questions RE: Red Pine

Sorry if this is off topic, borderline I think...

As I mentioned in the other thread regarding harvesting/re-planting, we currently have about 20 acres of Red Pine. One other question I have about this species, are they useable/good for building either a log cabin or a post and beam type house?

They are used a lot up here for Log cabins. Post and beam? I dont know.

Check out some of my previous posts on log homes built here by the Amish. They are all built with red pine logs.

40 years ago we couldn't give red pine away, now it's in high demand for cabin logs, utility poles, landscape timbers, structural lumber, pulpwood, posts, etc.

Hoping this goes along with Mongo's question, Ron, how much can you get for Red Pine in Mich.? The best I can do here in NY is$20 a ton roadside, 7" min. Heard about aplace 200 miles away paying up to $180, 11" min, 120, 9"min, Int. scale. How much does Red Pine weigh per m? I have about 12 acres most pretty small, although 40 years old. Also have to skid about a mile. Thanks, Lyle

I just saw an ad where a guy is buying red pine poles.  Specs are 13" butt minimum, 35, 40, 45 & 50 ft.  Does yours fall into that category?

There are 5-10 buyers looking for red pine throughout NY and New England.  I didn't see any prices listed.

Michigan's current listed average stumpage price for red pine is $227.99/MBF, 10 inches and up and $52.44/cord, 5 inches and up. (International 1/4 scale). It varies plus or minus depending upon the area and the harvest costs.

A standard cord weighs about 2.7 tons. I MBF of sawlogs weighs about 7.5 tons.(Scribner).

During this next year, you might try selling RP to the treaters in your area. Rumor has it, that because treaters will no longer be able to use CCA  at the end of next year, but retailers can sell it for a long as they have it in stock, the big box stores (lowes, home depot) are going to buy BF totalling huge numbers next fall, so treaters will be buying YP, PP and RP whatever they can get their hands on. So next year might be a good year for  RP sales.
The other part of the equation that we do not yet know is, how much scots pine will come in from germany, as they are treating that now.
