I would like to introduce myself!
« on: August 27, 2002, 08:56:52 am »
I have been watching from the sidelines for sometime and made a few posts on other forums, but this one seems to best fit what I am looking for.
My background: I am 36, have a small piece of ground, with a few trees and enjoy spending time working in the woods. I have a successful carrier as an engineer in a high tech company, and am board to death with it. Want to spend more time in the woods and less time in an office. A few weeks ago, I started e-mailing Frank P and this past weekend I took him up on his offer to come down and see his operation. What a incredible setup he has, it was very inspiring. I do have to say that the Mobile Dimensions mills he as are the slickest thing since sliced, well sliced lumber. Talk about production, a determined person could kick out a lot of boards with that setup.

Frank,
Thank you very much for spending the time showing my wife and I your operation. We can certainly tell where your passion lies.

One question: where does one find anchor seal in consumer sizes, (1 or 5 gallons)?

Hi, Rob. Just wanted to welcome you aboard, and express my envy that you got to visit Frank's place. It's about a 3000 mile trip for me to go up there, but I may do it, anyway.

Rob,
What part of Oregon do you live in? I live about 60miles up the hill from Frank. Frank has too many toys for one person, there is just not enough time for him to play with them all. Have been waitting for Frank to get the big circular mill running.

I truly appreciate the thank-you's, gentlemen.  Yes they are called toys, BIG BOY TOYS.  8) 8)   Yes Rob is was fun to share with you and your lovely wife.  ;) You are all welcome to come and visit; even pitch a tent or stay in the horsebarn for a day or three if you'all wish.  I even have a hookup for RV's if you so desire. Hey, Rob and D. Fredrick, next time we will have to have a quick tour of the Farm in the Gator.  Thank you Sawbilly for posting the site for the Anchor-Seal. as I just arrived a few minutes ago.

No, Jeff, most all of us have climbed down a number of decades ago, 2 million.   There are, however, a few still trying to retain the old ways with pitching tent like units high up in Old Growth Douglas Fir or West Coast Redwood.  Most are not very successful.   Some have even fallen to their death. :'(

John,
I would like to see the list, for future reference more than anything. I will not be ready to spend that type of capital for a while and I still have a lot to learn before I think about ripping thousands of board feet. The one thing I have learned is to start small and make small mistakes. Small mistakes teach you a lot, but it usually costs less.

Regards,

Rob
