I was thinking about bringing the family (two young kids) and staying in a hotel. Is there nearby decent lodging?

Does it sell out quickly too?

Any specific place/hotels to recommend?

Nelsonville is not very big. There are no large towns close to it. If you go to Yahoo and key in "Nelsonville, oh" in the search function it'll come up with a page of hotels in the Nelsonville area.

The one time we went there we staid in some small town west of there. I can’t even remember the name of town.

There is only one motel @ Nelsonville and it usually is filled up the Monday after P. B. for the next year. Try Athens , Ohio,it's about 15 miles east .You need to make up your mind soon as they might fill up too.The town of Logan is to the west I don't know if it has any motels. Tom

Yes I'm taking my little ones .They have went every year since they were born. My 2 youngins are 3 and 5 years old. There are alot of things to do for them.There is an old frontier village on campus you can visit. A steam train goes from the show into Nelsonville and back.There is always someone at just about every chainsaw booth carving pieces of logs into sculptures all day long. There is a Skit type lumberjack show that is funny to watch just don't sit too close to the pond unless you would like to get wet and cool off. Then there is the real lumberjack contests like you see on TV . Most of the food vendors have good food too

. If your kids like to watch equipment operate like mine do they won't be dissappointed The selection of forestry related equipment is unbelievable . the equipment ranges from what a workingman can buy to what ever your bank account can afford.My wife only allows me to have a certain amount of money when we go there .That way I usually can't buy anything that won't fit in the bed of my truck.But I wonder if she would notice that on the way back a bandmill mysteriously got tangled up on my trailer hitch

I almost forgot that there are some booths that sell craft type items also .

Mary and I just talked about it again this morning. Still not 100% decided to go. Sure would like to. We about visited out at the Mid-West show and really behind in our sawing.

We took the long way home instead of the interstate and spotted on hard maple turning orange (our favorite color

) and then noted a bunch more about ready to turn. Last time we were at the PB show, about half the trees were turning their fall colors - a few days or week later and they'd been something.

Here is a couple of pictures I got the last time we were there.

We got there early! I think it was the day we left.

Hey Bibby ,

Dugsaws and I made it back. It was a little muddy but that didn't dampen the want to buy alot of things.I took some pics but haven't had the time to get them posted yet . I will get them on tomorrow. We got to meet Sawmill John and Don Cadwell at the Mobile Dimension booth. I talked to the guysat the Wooodmizer booth but can't remember their names. The LT-70 with Cat power was awesome. I wouldn't want to be a tailman if the operator got serious about sawin wood. I got action pics ofthat mill and the Mobile Dimension.

Here are the pics I took at Paul Bunyon 2003

In the last pic standing under the canopy is Dugsaws and Mtn Jack watching the Mobile Dimension at work with Sawmill ohn at the controls . Don Cadwell is standing behind them talking to someone else . John and Don were great to talk to . They even tried to talk me into a sweet heart of a deal for that mill .

Could be the one place where all the major Forestry Forum sponsors have an exhibit. Good time to toast them. Maybe get them all together for a group picture.

Its a LOOOONG ways from L.A. Almost clear across the country. You probably can recognize the location of the great lakes on a U.S. map? Just east of most of the lakes and south.

2004 Show is coming up!

Does anyone have information on camping at or near the show site? I know there is a state park about 20 miles away but was hoping there might be something closer where some of the forum members stay.

Any information would be appreciated.

When we were there a bunch of years back, there were bunches and bunches of people camping right there at the show. You had to park about a mile from the show grounds and walk past the campers to get to the gate. I don't know how you reserve a place there. Maybe it tells something on the web site.

I have camped at the Baul Bunyan Show for the last 15-18 years .I have been saving MNT. Jack a place for the last 3 years.My friends say Jack is my "internet date".
I could save some more sites (it's first come first served) if someone wanted me to.We usually go to PB on wed. or thursday. We can talk more about it as the time gets nearer. PB officals were talking about not having camping this year ,but I think that was because of the shootout that was to be there. Tom

Mary and I sure are planning to attend this year. BUT we've said we were going to make it back the last two years also and something has came up.

One thing to consider about attending this show... Pepair for mud in case it rains!

The show is held out in a hay field below the college. There is very little paved parking and it goes fast in the morning. The main parking area is in other hay fields about a mile from the show area.

I think there is another option of parking in town and taking the train over to the show area. I think it ran about every half-hour.

The Paul Bunyan show is one of best forestry shows I’ve ever attended. We’ve made a lot of post with lots of info on the show.

it is a very good time! I went to school there for wildlife management and Ranger training in mid 80s. Paul Bunyan show was always a BIG weekend.

I'd sure love to come back to the Paul bunyan show this year but just cant make it. SAW MILLER , i imagine before the show gets here, one of the sponsors will be designated as this years Forestry Forum meeting spot. Last year the offical spot was logrite tools, but you will find forum members at any of the other sponsors. Tell that bibbyman to where his forum hat to the show instead of the wood-mizer hat. Everybody at wood-mizer already knows him anyways.

The Paul Bunyan show is always on our list but we've only been able to attend two in the past 5-6 years. We've just got a mountain of logs in this week and expect more. We are working on a building extension and are planning to attend the Midwest Forest Ind show comeing up in a week or two. LOTS to do!!

The cost of the tickets are on the small end of the list of costs involved.

There is the 18 hours of driving one way that we'd spread over a night on the way getting there and another getting back. Then we'd be there for two days so that's 4 days so far.

Then it takes Mary a day to get ready and take enough "stuff" to homestead in Alaska. Then anther day when we get back to unload, unwind and get back into work mode again.

So that’d be 6 days out of work with 4 nights in a motel room and eating in restaurants – not to mention $2-300.00 in gas. Money going out, none coming in. $:-\$

I plan to attend the show on Sunday. I have been the last four years but havn't had the pleasure of meeting any other members. I would prefer to go on Saturday but my daughters band is playing in the West Virginia mountain state forest festival in Elkins WV. So I will have to attend it on Saturday and try to make the PB show on Sunday. Hope to meet some of you members there.

John, The camping area is just a big field . Can't preregister. I go up a day early to save spots. At the east side of Nelsonville on rt. 33 Turn onto rt. 691 to Hocking College . Go about 200 yards and turn right onto ?.Camping area is down the road on the right. I always try to camp in the far right corner by a group of white Pines .97 Ford pick up with 27 Ft. prowler camper. cell 513-310-2456 if you get lost. Tom

I wasn't even there at Paul Bunyan this year and I got this picture.

Here is Burl Thatcher with some of the furniture he build at the Paul Bunyan show 2005.

I guess nobody seen him work on the Lathe-Mizer because everybody was looking the other way.
