72" or Larger Chainsaw Bar

Greetings All,

I am looking for a supplier and pricing for a 6' or 7' double end chainsaw bar.  I am planning to replace my 5' bar to slab some larger diameter logs.  I am located in Canada, but have the ability to pick up US goods in the US.  Any help would be appreciated.  This is my first post on this very helpful forum.

I would talk to the people at baileys first they have always helped me find the parts I needed. Their is also madsens online they I know could get you a 6 or 7 foot bar. What saws are  you going to use to power the bar.

I had them cut the hardnose off my 60" Stihl bar & put on a replaceable sprocket tip. It's been several years, but I think they only charged me about $75.00.

The largest we have bought from Cannon was a 94" bar for 404 chain.

we drive the chain from both ends.  you can have 404 or 3/8.  404 is skip tooth, 3/8 we recommend you grind off unneeded teeth.

The belley is made on a arc to keep the chain from slapping.  can be used in either direction.

Hey, I just stumbked into your forum here and spent the last few
days soakin' some of this stuff up. Great place...

I need to slab some big logs ongoing. Some down to 30 inch cants for
my WM mill and some left wide and natural edged. I saw the reference
to Cannon and looked at their 84 " double headed saw bars and now I
have questions.

1. Do you need to match power heads or could I use my Stiehl 44 and a
    larger head on the other end?

2. Are there chainsaw mills that would fit a large bar like that one that any
    of you could recommend.

I run on to a lot of 40 " plus stuff and would be using this on a fairly regular
basis. I would like to be able to cut flat and square enough to make it worth
my time.

I didn't if Alaska mills would handle this sort of rig (length or 2 heads) or if
there was something better.

I'm sure some of you are doing it. I just haven't found the posts yet maybe.

Any way I already feel at home here.

Welcome Mike;
I think your best choice would be a dedicated slabber if you are milling a large number of large logs.
If you just want to knock a little off to get them onto a band mill you shouldn't require an exceptionally long bar.
I would opt for one large chain saw with an additional oiler and a large Alaskan mill if you want to keep costs down.

 For some reason or another I had this vision in my head of sharpening a 7 feet chain.Lets see,a dozen files,6 pack of beverage and about an hour of time.Wow

That aside,I believe that Canon makes custom bars up to 8 feet.The price would be a kings ransom.Give the good folks at Baileys a ringa ding,they will steer you in the right direction.
