New member introduction
« on: July 16, 2005, 10:26:36 am »
My name is Jacob and I am 16 years old and am the son of Tn_man. I am trying to post a pic here but don't know if I can figure this out. I bought a Peterson ATS 827 at the Sawlex show and have already cut about 4 mbft with it. I have got several other jobs lined up in the next few weeks, thanks to my dad's help. I have enjoyed all the information that I have learned here and figured that it was time to join in.

Well Howdy, Teen Swinger.  8)  I was watchin ya get the training on that machine. Sounds like you got it figured out and are gettin on down the road.  Congratulations for getting the saw and getting the jobs.  8) 8)

Picture posting is easy. There is a post on the "Behind the Forum" topics board, on how to do the whole picture posting thingy. Can't wait to see what you have accomplished.  8) 8) ;D

Thanks for the welcome!
I don't know if I would describe the pic posting as easy. I got one pic on my gallery and that is as far as I could get it.

Jacob, once the photo is in the gallery, yer nearly done. Open the gallery, find the photo, right under the photo will be a tiny line of print. That is what you copy and paste into your post. You can highlight it yourself, OR click on the link right below that and it will highlight the tiny print.

Now, go to your post and paste it. YER DUNN.   :)

I had forgotten about that invention you were working on. Good Luck with that.  ;) ;) :)

Here is another try to post my pic.
This is a 48" red oak that had some beautiful wood in it. It was alot of fun cutting up.
I was going to add that I am going into my junior year of high school and that my parents home-school me.

Jacob I remember meeting you at Sawlex and how excited you were about your mill.  I am glad to see that you got it home ok and that you are making sawdust with it.  Does Dad help with the sawing or do you not even let him get close to it?  Hope you have many years of happy sawing!

Yes there is a bit of "blue" in the log. We hit a nail close to the pith. Unfortunately it ruined a few of the boards we cut due to the stain. I remember meeting most of ya'll at the shootout.

Here is another pic of the log and my dad with me.

Now I got a pretty good start on it.
Yes Kirk, your tip really paid off. We got WM to send us on of those tools and I fixed my dad's mill for him. ( I do most of the mechanicing around here and my dad does most of the job finding and tailing.)
Thanks to every body for your words of encouragement.

Welcome aboard Teen Swinger. You've got 40 years on me. I ordered my mill 2 days after my 58th birthday. Should have been like you and gotten one when I was 17 too. Good going there Jacob!
logging small time for years but just learning how, with a Forest stewardship plan, 2 compact Ford 4x4 tractors, 3point log arch, 8000# class excavator, lifts 2500# and sets logs on mill precisely where needed,  Peterson ATS upgraded to WPF mill, sugar maple/maple syrup a hobby gone amuck.

Way to go!  How far out of level was the blade?

Was doing some routine maintenance today and found a loose guide roller.  Tightened  it up and checked it for level and that turkey was off by 1/4".

Captain,
No it did not come in yet and we got two jobs lined up for this week. I am hoping it comes in on Monday.
Kirk,
It is out by about 1/4" from end to end. It really runs much better now. My dad is happy. We used it to cut up a cherry stump yesterday afternoon. There was some pretty figure in it. Sorry no pics of that.
My goal is to have this mill pay for itself in 1 year. I have a prety good start so far. I have had it for just over a month and it has earned right around 1000$ so far, with 2 more jobs already lined up and another in the making. I am pretty pleased. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Great pics too. You're a very focused & driven young man - you'll go along way mate! Keep up the good work & be sure to keep in touch.   ;)

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to your future with your new mill!   8)
Now, I've been giving some thought to whether or not you'll have to change your handle when you git older, and I say no.  Here's why.....you got your first swing mill when you were a teenager.  That means when you hit 40 that you were/are STILL a TeenSwinger!  Most folks on this forum can't even lay claim to that!  There are even some folks a little jealous, although I won't name them (Cowboy Bob).    :D
