10,000 lbs of mesquite
« on: July 13, 2005, 12:33:39 am »
Any body got a rough idea how many bf this would work out to? the logs are supposed to be 16-24"x?. I wouldn't figure them to be much if any longer than 10'. LeeB

Mesquite:
Weight is 50 pounds per cubic foot. Specific gravity is 0.80.

20" log x 10' = 1,090 pounds.

Same log, 20"x10' =
Doyle:160  board feet
Scribner:170 board feet
International:181 board feet

Don't know if that will help.

Most of the mesquite I have seen is crooked as all get outs.
Maybe the 16-24" is the length.

Thanks Furby. That's about what I came up with. I figured anywhere from 10-20 logs depending on diameter and lenghth.

HT, sometimes you get lucky and get longer logs. you can get them in the longer lengths. thery do tend to want to be crooked though. the customer is a high end furniture maker and has specified to the logger what he will take so i expect some decent logs.

 Thanks for the replies. LeeB
