My Dad, Mark M.
« on: June 08, 2005, 11:05:46 pm »
Forestry Forum Guys,
My name is Aaron Mathys and Mark M. is my dad. Dad always talked about you guys so I thought I should post this for you. Today, June 6th, at about 5:30 pm my dad got in an accident when he was loading a log onto his trailer. As soon as he got it loaded the break on his suburban failed and the truck and trailer took off. He was between the two when it started rolling and tried to jump and get out of the way, but couldn't make it. When the truck stopped moving he was stuck underneath the trailer, pinned against the curb on the street. He passed away before arriving at the hospital.
I just wanted you all to know that he really enjoyed talking with you and getting to know you guys. I guess that's it.

Sincerely,
 Aaron Mathys

Aaron,
I'm so sorry to hear that.  I know you are having a difficult time.

Your Dad was  a fine fellow.  I had the opportunity to meet him and we hit it off right off of the bat.  Both of us had a lot in common with the other, even looks.   My heart is broken as I know yours is .  I share your grief and wish to put an arm around your shoulders.

We will miss your Dad's humor.  Please stay in touch.

I'm so sorry Aaron.

I met your Dad face to face at the Pig Roast last year and then had the good fortune to sit and visit him for nearly 3 hours at the airport. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Thank you for letting us know what happened. He will be missed very much.

Aaron, your Dad meant a lot to this forum and to its members. As you probably know, he traveled to our home last year. I was honored that he came and was honored to get a chance to meet him. Tammy and I send our prayers for you and your Family. Mark was a good man. The Forestry Forum will never be the same without him and we will never ever forget him.

My prayers as well to the family of Mark M. We grew to have a lot of respect for him, and just today I was going to post and ask Mark about the thirdy-room house. This is a big loss to his family as well as to the forum.  God Bless.

I was fortunate enough to meet your Dad and stayed at the same B&B with him at the pig roast last year.  I always looked forward to his wonderful humor and fantastic pictures.

We pray for God to comfort you and your family at this tragic time.

For those that can view AVI movies, here is a short clip of Mark and his sawmill. His local news heard about him and did a story. This is that News story.

Aaron, your news has broken my heart.  I always enjoyed your Dad's notes on the forum. He sure had a great wit about him. I will never forget the thread he put together about his trip across North Dakota in search of trees.  I met your Dad at the Forum Pig Roast last August and am so glad I did. He was as fine a man as anyone I've ever met.  I'm so glad I got to meet and talk to him face to face.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family.  My prayers are for our Lord to give you and your family the strength you will need to carry you through this difficult time.

I'm sure going to miss you Dad.

Aaron,
I was just on my way to bed and thought I would peek in here for a few smiles before calling it a day. No smiles now, just a few tears. I always enjoyed reading your father's posts. He had a lot of knowledge on subjects I found to be of interest. He also had a   neat sense of humor. My heart goes out to you and your family. He will be missed.

When I signed onto the forum I saw Mark's picture at the top of the page and I knew what it meant.

I immediately thought, "Oh no, NO, NO. Not Mark.

I had just exchanged emails with him a couple of weeks ago. He sent me his new address and phone number.

He was so well versed on so many subjects.

Tears of sadness.... :(

Aaron,

I'm so sorry for the loss of your father.  I had the privilege of meeting your father at the Pig Roast last year, and I feel honored to have met him.  I think your dad was the first person I met at the Pig Roast, and I instantly knew that here was a man I would enjoy getting to know.  I've enjoyed his wit and wisdom here on the forum, and all the many photos he's shared with us of his travels.  I was struck with how kind-hearted Mark was when I met him in person.  Your dad will be sorely missed here, though I know that pales with the loss you feel.  Please know that years from now, he'll be remembered by us all.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.  Your father was a good man--I know the world was a better place because of your dad, and this little corner of the world was so much the better because your father shared so much of himself with us all.  God be with you all in this difficult time.

Here is Mark's photo gallery.  He's shared so many of his photos with us.  He was a great photographer, and I thought it would be nice to revisit Mark's galleries.

Condolences to you and your family on the loss of your father.

Let this tragic accident is a reminder to us all that in the pursuit of our hobby or profession working in the field of forestry that these things can happen so quick and often it bears being extra careful.

I corresponded quite a bit with your dad out side the open forum when he first joined. I enjoyed talking with this man of special intellect in so many areas.  He got a lot of excitement and pleasure out of assembling his own mill and finding logs to saw.  I especially enjoy his photos of wildlife and landscape.  His technical expertise was a great asset to us all on the Forum.

Here is a view from when I went mountin climbing. My butt was draggin that day  ;)
