To the kiwis,

The pine we grow in Australia is largly based on climate (eg. cold or hot).

For nearly all pine down south (from about halfway down the NSW coast down) we grow Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata). Nearly all pine above this is either Slash Pine (Pinus elliotii) or Carabean (I think thats the spelling) Pine (Pinus carabea) or a mix of the two.

NB. In some higher areas radiata pine is also grown - science lesson, for every 1000' increase in altitude from sea level there is an approx drop in ambiant temp of 10 degrees celcius. Thats why Toowoomba is so bloody cold!

About 98% of pine in Australia is for sawlog. We make chip out of good timber :D.

What is Jojoba?

I think if the recent events are anything to go buy, you shouldn't bother watching, it will be too depressing :D :D :D :D :D

Hi Si     sounds quite poetic ;)

Here are a few links on Jojoba (pronounced Hohoba  spanish j's)

The Aussie site  http://www.newcrops.uq.edu.au/newslett/ncnl1218k.htm

American sites   http://ag.arizona.edu/aes/mac/jojoba.htm

some pix   http://azuswebworks.com/html/jojoba.htm

http://www.fas.usda.gov/info/agexporter/1998/April%201998/jojoba.html

I don't find the cricket at all depressing, I liken it more to the giving of Christmas gifts; a pleasure to watch our generosity in building up the Aussie ego in action.
