Anyone have any sugjestions on Edgers? We will be looking for one in the near future and could use some advice.

Is the belt feed better  then the Roller type?

Has anyone any information on a Timberking T802 edger? There is one for sale not to far from me, and I would like to get some more info before I call on them. It is being sold by Amish, and will be hard to find out info about it unless I go and visit them.

When you go to look at the TimberKing pay attention to the board width adjuster. It will become annoying quick.
Look at the Morgan Little Champ before you buy.

Belt drive is nice and accurate, the pinch roller type edger sometimes won't hold the board straight and you get a curved board.

Rick,  if you're heading up around Kingston area (around Lake Puckaway),  keep your antennae up.  'Twas an Amish mill up around there was going to charge a buddy of mine 2 bucks/bf to plane some cedar I gave him.  I planed it in my basement with my itty-bitty Delta portable instead.  Disclaimer:  This is not meant in a derogatory fashion towards the Amish,  just a heads-up about one individual! :o

I charge ten cents a board foot per surface. i.e. two sides and one straight edge is thirty cents, less on large quantities.  This if for my own lumber that I sell, when someone brings lumber to me I am skeptical about doing it for them.  Too many bad experiences with that wood that "I'm absolutely sure has nothing in it".
Hope this gives you an idea of where you should be.

A mill near me charged me $120.00 for roughly 800 bf about 2 years back,  so that's....hmmm...15 cents?  Math is fuzzy at this time of day....A millwork shop charged my about the same for some maple,  but neither would touch the edges,  too many random widths to justify set up time.  Had an old-timer some years back who had a massive planer he ran off the PTO of his tractor,  planed all four sides in one pass,  could T&G or shiplap in one pass as well with a cutter change.  He charged 50 bucks per thousand if you helped,  but he's passed on and I suppose so have the prices......
Dew - are you running the edge on a jointer?  Just curious!

Is there anyone that might have some info to share on this edger? Dixon Slab/Board Edger  2-saw, 20HP, hyd. feed w/Taylor edging belt. Price: $4,445.00. It is for sale in Wi and I don't have a clue as to its worth.

Yes I do my edging on a long bed jointer.  I will have less waste and a glueable edge when finished.  It does take more labor than a straight line rip but with my setup it works very well.

To all, the Dixon edger was a bust. Guy admitted it wouldn't hold any Tollerance over 8" wide. Also it was set up for short lumber. So it wasn't a good thing. Now I saw one advertized as a Morgan Trail Champ ( Year 2001 ). Is this the Little Champ extended? Says 12" blades, 20 Hp Vangaurd.

Rick-Wi,

"Extended Little Champ" is the name of our Morgan.

Spend the extra money to get the extension. It's worth the money.

Not sure what the "trail" champ is, unless it's the trailer version.

Morgan had a Sale going for a while, Bibbyman got in on this recently.

We paid $7250 delivered to Cedar Rapids Iowa, 3 years ago.
This included extra blades, and a 10hp 3ph electric motor.
